More Trouble For Plaxico

Hear That...Yeah, That's Me Not Calling You. (Photo: MCT Photo / Newsday.com)

There are times when a person’s name hits the media headlines and just won’t go away.  Think T.O. during his McNabb debacle, Britney Spears during her cooch flashing and head shaving and now Plaxico Burress.

Plax just can’t catch a break with the media, but it may just be warranted.  The guy gets suspended for not showing up to work and then treats it as a vacation, reports start surfacing that he has been fined between 40-50 times from the Giants, and now he has allegedly failed to pay for repairs to a rental car.

According to the New York Post Burress returned a rental car after hours without leaving notice of damage to the bumper.  He has paid the almost $1000 rental bill but has failed to pay for $1759 in damages.  The rental car company has turned the matter over to a claims management firm who in turn has contacted the Giants for assistance.

According to the claims management firm when they contacted Charles Way, director of player development, “He said he’d try his best to speak to Plaxico and get it paid. When we called him back he said, ‘Man, I’m trying.’ ”

When the front office of a football team is getting contacted regarding a players personal bills there is a HUGE problem. Burress seems to be living in a fantasy land where there is no personal responsibility, he can do whatever he wants and his talent on the field will carry him through.

But he needs to realize that there will come a point when the NY Giants look at their other talent on the team (i.e. Domenik Hixon) who do not require this type of babysitting and cut their ties with him.  Is Burress ready for that?  Probably wouldn’t phase him because he knows there will be a spot with the Bengals or the Cowboys just waiting for him.
