It was their turn. The Kansas City Chiefs came out fighting yesterday and broke their 12 game losing streak with a 33-19 win. They had not won a game since October 21, 2007 and they were determined to break that streak. No one expected the Denver Broncos to let them do it, but if you look at Coach Mike Shanahan’s record in Arrowhead stadium (3-10) you will see that it was highly likely to happen.
There were a few iffy calls in the game but I think ref’s are gun shy against the Broncos after Hochili’s blown call in the Chargers game. Jay Cutler was obviously hit late by Turk McBride but no flag was thrown. Why? Later in the game Demorrio Williams was shoving on Jay Cutler as he got up from the ground. No flag was thrown so Jay Cutler took matters into his own hand and laid out the linebacker. That was so funny it deserved to be rewound and watched again. The best part, when Cutler simply adjusted his shoulder pad and walked away afterward.
But…none of these calls would have mattered in the game because KC’s Larry Johnson could not be stopped. He ran 198 yards with 2 touchdowns. The Denver D just couldn’t shut him down. They also couldn’t stop Dantrell Savage’s 51 yard kickoff return and the Denver offense couldn’t stop the turnovers. The Chiefs were given many opportunities by Denver and they capitalized on all of them. Brandon Flower’s 37 yard fumble recovery definitely put some momentum into KC and it just kept rolling.
Way to go KC you deserved the win. It must feel satisfying to score more points in this game (33) than you have in the first 3 games combined (32). This was one game where Denver’s highly touted offense simply couldn’t overcome the struggles of their defense.
