Goodbye Gina Carano and Kimbo Slice

Well it looks like Gina Carano and Kimbo Slice just weren’t enough for viewers.  According to Fox Sports EliteXC and ProElite have filed for bankruptcy.  They are reporting today that “all of the company’s employees will be released from their respective contracts.”

The Fight Network is reporting that, “while top officials with the company have yet to confirm the reports, nobody with ProElite has been quoted as disputing them. Given the nature of the content, one would think that the company would be assertive in response to such news if it were erroneous.”

ProElite was in talks with CBS for a takeover that would have saved the company but after Seth Petruzelli KO’d Slice and made remarks about it being fixed, CBS has backed out.

No shocker here. I was pretty surprised that CBS even wanted to be associated with MMA.  The entire situation seemd like a last ditch effort to save a sport that has turned into the next WWE.  MMA started out respectable during the Gracie and Shamrock (pre-WWF) days of the early 90’s but has since become just another chance for no-name guys to try and prove themselves but usually ending in embarassment.  The skill level of todays fighters just isn’t the same and if I’m being honest, I would rather watch WWE because at least there is a story line behind the bad moves.
