Cedric Benson Is Employed!

Just five days after being cleared of all charges against him, the Cincinnati Bengals signed Cedric Benson to their dimished roster of running backs.  This is Benson’s chance to show the league that he truly is the talent everyone thought he was when he was drafted by Chicago in 2005.

There are many questionable characters in the league who have had their share of legal trouble and with the right mentoring have turned it around.  It sounds like Benson is moving in that direction by surrounding himself with positive influences and getting involved in worthwhile causes.  According to the Bengals website he is working with Gigi Bryant, the mother of former Bengals linebacker Marcus Wilkins, to “set up public appearances in which he can help children’s causes.”

“These last couple of months have been humbling,” Benson told the Austin American-Statesman. “It really made me take a step back and evaluate what I was doing. It’s given me an opportunity to look in the mirror, to see who I’m looking at and talk to that person.”

During Tuesday’s try-outs there were names such as Noah Herron, Keon Lattimore (Baltimore Ravens Ray Lewis’s little brother), Vernand Morency, LaBrandon Toefield and Dwayne Wright.  For the Bengals to look past the offield issues he’s had and choose Benson says a lot about his talent and their belief in him.

Cedric,  you’ve been given a second chance and to let this opportunity slip through your fingers would be a waste.
