Allen Iverson No Shows-Good For Him

The Detroit Pistons have fined Allen Iverson for not showing up for a 9am practice on Thanksgiving Day.  They say he also will not start on Friday against the Bucks, but come on, can you blame the guy.  It’s Thanksgiving, he’s got kids and he just wanted to spend time with his family.  Everyone is making a big deal of the practice averse Iverson being at it again and I just want to tell them all to shut up.

McDonald’s was closed yesterday, gas stations were closed, and let me ask you this: Did you go to work yesterday?  The answer is probably no so why is he any different.  Yes he gets paid millions of dollars to play basketball but that doesn’t make holidays with your family any less important.  Do you really think that fine is going to hurt him?  Nope.

I’m not going to jump on the Iverson bashing band wagon around here. I say, “Way to go Iverson, your team shouldn’t have had a practice anyway.”

    Have to strongly disagree.

Allen said he’d be willing to do what it takes to fit in. How is he fitting in with his teammates if he’s the only one not showing up to practice? Especially since he needs more practice time than anyone else.

Second, it was AN HOUR. One hour out of his day? Would your family think any less of you yesterday if you took one hour to fulfill a professional obligation?

Needs more practice than anybody else? Iverson is the points average leader on the team.. Furthermore, AN HOUR is a bullshit prctice, even more if these players live in suburbs miles out of town, this turns into a couple of hours where nothing really gets accomplished except for disrupting an otherwise relaxing day.

My family wouldnt think less of me, maybe the organization though and considering how much these players travel I think 1 day where an emphasis is on family gatherings the practice was nonsense and not good for morale.

    Pistons nation . com huh!

There’s more to winning then ppg. Iverson needs to learn the nuances of the defensive schemes. He’s constantly getting burned and getting teammates into foul trouble because he’s lost track of his man and they have to change their rotation to cover for him. He would also be better off familiarizing himself with the offense instead of just dribbling around while the rest of team looks on.

Where do you think the practice facility is? The Pistons don’t play anywhere close to the city Detroit they play in the burbs. Plus the weather was fair.
