In an article from Housekeeping Weekly dated May 13, 1955 titled “The Good Wife’s Guide” they offered the rules for keeping your man happy. Now, I know some of you may not be married by you can still appreciate these rules. Come on, what man wouldn’t love to come home to a woman who looks good, makes him a drink and is ready to please him.
I know feminists will be all over this but really, as a woman who follows many of these “guidelines” I can say they work.
Here are a few of the better ones:
- Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him.
- Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first - remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.
- Make the evening his. Never complain if he comes home late or goes out to dinner or other places of entertainment without you. Instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure and his very real need to be at home and relax.
- Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or have him lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.
- Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.
- Don’t ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.
- A good wife always knows her place.

God forbid your marriage is egalitarian, right? It’s amazing to me to see how some women embrace being considered subordinate and second-best as opposed to equal. You have every right to question him, honey. Having a penis doesn’t make you anymore intelligent or sound than having a vagina. It’s been proven scientifically.
And to think some people say the feminist movement has been a success! I sincerely feel bad for you if you genuinely think your place as a wife is to be a domestic servant. You’re missing out on a truly successful relationship.

I’ve read this article before, so I’m not really responding to it - it’s an example of the attitudes of the time period it was published and nothing more.
I’m more responding to the comments. Does it REALLY make one a femi-nazi to disagree with statements like “you have no right to question him” or “a good wife always knows her place”? Or to be relieved that most people don’t abide by “rules” like that anymore?

I think that it should get back to that! A woman needs to know her place in a mans world. If it got back to that it would eliminate all the malcontent children growing up these days!
